Week-long Overnight Experience with Focus on Pre-Employment Transitioning
The Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth is hosting an overnight immersive, pre-employment experience for Texas students who are no or low vision in the cultural district of Fort Worth at the H2 Suites by Hilton with full suites. Students will experience career building training in the mornings and business exploration by afternoon, with nightly social activities. The week will emphasize on students gaining their independence and having the confidence to set and achieve their goals. Our program curriculum includes Discovering Interest and Talents, Workplace Readiness, Self-Advocacy, Orientation and Mobility, Independent Living Skills, Assistive Technology and more geared toward high school Juniors and Seniors. Each student has an opportunity to earn specific items to accelerate their career path, compliments of the Lighthouse and our generous funders.
Project B.E.L.I.E.V.E. is a specific career exploration and job readiness program that helps students with visual disabilities prepare for future employment and success after high school. This program is an important part of the transition process from high school to post-secondary life.
Students nominated by TVIs, TWS, or parents will be selected for this program by the Lighthouse. The Lighthouse can only host 16 students. Criteria is based on the student’s school performance, teacher’s recommendation, and the commitment to attend and complete the program.
The deadline to submit nominations to the Lighthouse for the Blind is Feb 6, 2023. Selection will be determined the week of February 13th. Award notification letters and program information will be sent to parents the following week.
Thanks to the generous donations by local corporations and foundations, the Lighthouse will cover all program expenses. Parents are responsible for dropping off and picking up students at the H2 Suites by Hilton in Fort Worth. Parents will be required to complete appropriate releases prior to final acceptance.
