The mission of Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth is to empower individuals who are blind through superior training, meaningful employment and specialized client services so that they lead full lives with the highest level of independence and quality of life.

Significant vision change can be a concern for anyone: a college bound student, a baby boomer or an elderly person; but the loss of sight does not mean the loss of independence. At the Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth, our services are focused to empower and enhance the lives of local citizens who are blind or who have low vision. We provide the tools, skills and the encouragement to people living with a significant vision impairment so they remain self-sufficient and independent.

Since 1935, the Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth has been that beacon of hope for children, youth and adults who are blind or have significant low vision. Our mission is to empower individuals who are blind through superior training, meaningful employment and one-on-one specialized client services so that they lead full lives with the highest level of independence and quality of life. This is accomplished through three programs: Industrial Operations and Sales, Client Services and Community Outreach. The Lighthouse is committed to being the most accessible resource available and to developing an ongoing relationship with each individual at the earliest onset of vision loss so as to be there with them for their entire life time.

As one of the few socially entrepreneurial nonprofits in the area, Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth is investing our dollars, along with community philanthropic dollars, in programs, services, and jobs right here in Tarrant County. We are proud that we generate an operating revenue stream as we accomplish our mission of providing employment opportunities for working age blind adults. The majority of these dollars are reinvested into the organization to pay salaries and benefits for blind and sighted employees, operational overhead, and the purchase of raw materials for ongoing production. Any surplus income underwrites our Client Services which allows us to offer the majority of services at little or no cost to our consumers.

The quality of our programs and services is a source of pride for those who are connected with the Lighthouse and a source of comfort for those served. Respectful of our past, proud of our current operations and services, and wildly enthusiastic about our future, we at the Lighthouse believe we have a story and mission worth sharing.
